#India marks the 148th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi today, which is also the third year of the Swachh Bharat mission. PM Narendra Modi is currently addressing a Swachh Bharat awards event in Delhi's Vigyan bhavan.

"Cleanliness is Godliness" had been the mantra of Mahatma Gandhi's life. Gandhi, in his lifetime, demonstrated, propagated and insisted for individual and community cleanliness. Following his footsteps, the Government of India, launched 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' on October 2, 2014 with a vision of achieving 'Clean India'. #PFC to provide Rs 4,000 crore for 4 GW power plant in Telangana

State-run Power Finance Corp (PFC) has committed financial assistance of Rs 4,009 crore to Telangana for setting up a 4,000 MW thermal power plant in Nalgonda district.

PFC has sanctioned a term loan of Rs 4,009 crore to TSGENCO (Telangana Power Generation Corporation Ltd) for setting up 5X800 MW,

coal based Yadadri Thermal Power Plant using super-critical technology in Nalgonda district of Telangana.

The Yadadri Thermal Power Plant will generate approximately 29,784 million units of energy to meet the future power requirement of Telangana.
14th India-EU Summit to be held in New Delhi on 6 October 

#India will host the 14th India-European Union (EU) Summit in New Delhi on 6 October that will see the two sides declaring their resolve to combat terrorism and intensifying economic cooperation. 

The summit will be attended by European Council President Donald Franciszek Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. 

#The 13th India-EU Summit was held in Brussels on March 30, 2016. HDFC Bank partners top education institutes for fintech ideas 

In a first of its kind efforts in the domestic banking sector, second largest private sector lender HDFC Bank said it will be partnering with 50 technology and business schools to tap into emerging fintech ideas. 

It announced a tie-up with llT-Bombay and HTRoorkee as part of the industry-academia partnership effort. 

In the first phase of the initiative, 50 such partnerships are envisaged. The bank will use its domain expertise to mentor start-ups on customer experience, reduce time to market and costs. 

#ADB approves $80 million loan to Himachal Pradesh 

Multilateral lending agency ADB has approved a loan of $80 million (about Rs 524 crore) for modernisation of Himachal Pradesh's technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions. 

The total cost of the project is $100 million, with the Centre contributing $20 million. 

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2022. EESL to procure 10,000 Electric Vehicles from TATA Motors 

#Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), under the administration of Ministry of Power, Government of India (Gol), will procure 10,000 electric vehicles from Tata Motors Limited. 

The company was selected through an international competitive bidding aimed at increased participation. 

Tata Motors won the tender and will now supply the Electric Vehicles (EVs) in two phases first 500 e-cars will be supplied to EESL in November 2017 and the rest 9,500 EVs will be delivered in the second phase. 

The tender floated by EESL is the world’s largest single electric vehicle procurement. 

#Actor Tom Alter passes away at 67 

Veteran theatre and film personality Tom Alter lost his battle against skin cancer and passes away. He was 67. 

Tom Alter was battling stage four skin cancer at a Mumbai hospital, where he was admitted earlier in September. 

Known for starring in television shows like Bharat Ek Khoj, Junoon, Zabaan Sambhalke and Betaal Pachisi, Tom Alter was an American-origin actor settled in India. 

In 2008, he was recognised with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour of India
